Stop Termites Before They Damage Your Home

It’s pretty common knowledge that prevention is the best way to go when it comes to most things. Don’t want to get a cavity? Taking good care of your teeth will prevent that. Don’t want to break down on the side of the road? Keep up with car maintenance and the chances of that happening are fairly low. This same rule of thumb works when it comes to pests. It’s particularly true when it comes to termites. It’s better to prevent termites than to wait until the damage has been done before finally dealing with your termite problem.

Termites may be small but they have the potential to cause extreme damage to your home’s structure. These wood-destroying insects are initially drawn to wood that has been previously damaged by water, however, they can and most likely will feed on undamaged wood as well. They will continue to feed on the wood until it is practically hollow, weakening the entire structure of your home to the point where it is unsafe to live in. Repairing this damage is time-consuming, costly, and stressful. Unfortunately, termite damage is not often covered by homeowners insurance, adding to just how important termite prevention is.

Part of prevention is knowing what the first signs of a termite infestation are. Termites are very sneaky—they avoid detection by eating wood from the inside out. They can easily go undetected for months or even years. One sign of termites is their mud tubes, which you may see running up or along your foundation. Termites live below ground and travel between their colony and their food source by using these tubes. Another sign is swarming termites that are nearby or inside your home. Once you start noticing termite wings, this means that the termites have decided that your home is a good food source and they are settling in for the long haul. The good news? If you keep a watchful eye out, as soon as you begin to notice these signs you can avoid severe damage by contacting your local pest control company right away.

For residents of Aiken and the Central Savannah River Area, South Carolina, Aiken Pest Control is the place to call. At Aiken, we use The Sentricon® System with Always Active™, which is the most efficient termite colony elimination process today. Sentricon® with Always Active™ works like this: technicians will place bait underground around the perimeter of your property. Termites will then be attracted to the bait feed on it and transfer it between termites. This will eliminate all termites in the colony including the queen, preventing new (or more) colonies from being created.

Our termite control options include an inspection of your property for signs of termites, installing Sentricon® with Always Active™ stations in the soil around your home, monitoring those stations, an annual inspection, and free services in between scheduled visits if termites are detected. Aiken Pest Control is locally owned and has been protecting homes from termites and other pests since 1967! We too believe that prevention is the best strategy when it comes to dealing with pests. If you want to learn more about termite control and prevention or if you are seeing some of those signs we talked about earlier, contact Aiken Pest Control today!
